TTMT #317 – jewells68 – July 2, 2019 – Fuse and Cut

In which I talk about what’s currently in progress. Mostly prepwork for the memorial quilt. Sadly, after filming, I went on to screw up the cutting of the scarf fabric so that now I’m going to have to piece my borders or use a different border fabric. This is why I mostly work on projects in the morning! My brain…. it not work so goodly at the end of the day.

    1. It was a bit like wrestling an octopus, especially with the ceiling fan on, but I was working with a 3 yard single cut. I tried cutting it first into smaller bits, but it’s very flimsy and flyaway, so it was hard to cut it even relatively straight. So eventually I just left the rest of it uncut and cut after it was fused to the fabric. It might be easier if you have a pkg of the precut 8.5×11 sheets. I did find it easier to deal with with the fabric on the bottom, wrong side up, and the french fuse on top, nubby side down. Then I used a piece of cotton fabric on top as a press cloth. When I was done I had to wash my ironing board cover, from accidents here and there, but it really needed it anyway, so not a big deal. And the accuquilt had an easier time cutting two layers of fleece (each with french fuse already attached) than two layers of the t-shirt fabric from the blue pants (with french fuse already attached). Also, I never put water in my iron, so I fused them with a dry iron, and apparently you are supposed to use steam, but I didn’t have a spray bottle with just water in it. I should probably get one of those.

  1. Oh, love the dishtowel from Greece, so pretty! It’s so nice to have your coworkers think of you. šŸ™‚

Bummer about screwing up the scarf fabric. What happened?

I’m really looking forward to seeing how this comes together and YAY four day weekend!

    1. The dishtowel is so pretty I almost hate to use it.

Thank you for putting every idea I had into your software so I could make a decision. Otherwise we might still be talking about this next year, lol.

  2. Happy 4th a little early šŸ˜€ Hope you enjoy the heck out of your long weekend.

Too bad about the cutting, but I’m sure you’ll figure out something fun to do with it either way.

    1. It really only makes the borders difficult. I can still strip piece my blocks, my strip sets will just be shorter and there will have to be more of them. Worst case scenario I will go with a different border altogether. Which wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing. Hopefully there will be evidence of me sewing some blocks on the wall next week.

  4. I forget works at night and not (any more than normal) in the morning. Not liking it.
    Great travel gifts!
Glad the cutting is behind you. Can’t wait to see some blocks on the wall.
