This week I have two short videos. I finished the Project of Doom Harry Potter Bookshelf Quilt for my daughter. It is now on her bed and she loves it. So I did a video of the quilt before it left.
Then in the second video I talk about going to the Shipshewana Quilt Show and shop hop. I received a panel at one shop. Another had a coupon for a fat quarter. I picked up a grab bag at one shop, with lots of scraps. All the shops gave a 5″ square and directions to make pinwheel blocks. The blocks will be mailed in for charity quilts.
Patriotic Quilt Along is going well. Been organizing my sewing room. I have spent some time out in the yard planting my flowers. Then took a little time to start quilting the mini-mini mosaic lighthouse.
Finished sewing the LaVerne (Cy Star alternate design) top. Then I show 6 more blocks for a lap quilt. Moving on to the patriotic quilt along, by showing some blocks for it. Talk about planting fruit trees and blueberry bushes.
In this video I talk about making 3 dresses for the Miss Sweet Sixteen contest held during the Midwest Old Threshers reunion each year in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. The girls volunteer in various areas of the show during the reunion. They can be seen strolling the grounds in period dress for women of the late 1800s to early 1900s. I participated when I was 16 and can still wear my dress from then. Period clothing never goes out of style.
It took me over an hour to gather and pin each ruffle. Glad I used my favorite method of gathering. Zig-zag over cotton crochet thread, then pull into even gathers.
Then I talk about Cy Star Mystery Quilt alternate design blocks that I have made so far.
Attended the Kalamazoo Log Cabin Quilters meeting via zoom tonight. Their guess speaker was Mary Hogan with a slide show on her string quilts and her two books. That inspired me to make another string block.
This is the last week of my Cy Star Mystery Quilt Along. The last six weeks have flown by.
Cy Star Mystery Quilt Along is rolling right along. This week is week 5 and there is just one more week to go.
I love old quilts and today I share about one of the quilts my husbands grandmother made. One of my favorite parts of this quilt is the darker yellow used to finish the sashing. Then the fabrics from the 30’s-40’s that are used in this quilt are fascinating to look at. This square in a square in a square is a fun block. Quilts are meant to be used and this one is still being used.
Happy Groundhog’s Day, my calendar agrees with Phil, 6 more weeks of winter. So I will keep quilting. I have been busy working on my Mystery Quilt Along that starts February 11, 2021 sign up for my newsletter at http://www.cornercurvequilts.com. The quilt along will last for 6 weeks. In prepping and cutting for that quilt I created a lot more red and white strips for my string QAYG blocks. Then I got out my snowman wall hanging.
