I’ve been plugging away here and there on finishing masks for my coworkers and to donate locally. And working on stuff here in my dilapidated, 60+yo house/yard, where everything is breaking or falling apart… when I’m not working.
A wee bit of crafty since last week. If only I had taken a photo… Anyway, here’s a bit of a ramble about why I’m not piecing and why I’m not quilting, and why I committed a random act of knitting over the weekend. I am seriously loling at the still in the video preview, ROFTL!
So I thought I would be ready to film again today but life snuck up on me. I had to get to work early today and pack a lunch to work straight through because I have a thing tonight (same schedule yesterday, or I would have filmed then). I *might* get a video up maybe Thursday. If not by then, probably not until early next week.
So for now I just have a few pics to share of a brief meetup I had with my oldest nephew, Jeff, and his family (3 out of 4 kids, the oldest was already visiting her dad in East Texas and got to miss the cross country drive with the toddlers, poor her, lol) enroute moving from San Ramon, California to their newly purchased home in Ft. Worth, TX. We met at a park near the highway so the kids could run around and play before having to get back in the car for the last really long drive of the trip.
Jeff recently left his job at Sony (Playstation) in San Francisco to work for another company that will let him work remotely so that he no longer has to spend several hours a day just traveling to and from work. Since they eloped, this was the first time I have had the chance to meet his wife although we communicate on social media and messaging. So that was really great to get to meet in person and get to finally meet my great nephews. I’m hoping to travel to the DFW metro sometime in the next year to spend some time with them and meet their oldest daughter and my other nephew as well as my brother. It’s just been too long.
So here are me with my niece-in-law Sam and then Jeff and Sam and their three boys: Braden (7), Beckett (almost 4), and Sawyer (almost 2).
Mostly, it has been family things. My mum is in high care at the moment, after an operation. We had months of Dr. and specialist appointments for her knees and spine. She has been in a lot of pain. And we will need a lot of aftercare, which my dad and myself will share.
Then some major upheavals in the scouts, that I am involved in, has got me to the point that I want to leave the organization. Which is devastating to me, as I am very passionate about the movement, but the politics there now is unbearable.
And am also right in the middle of a really nasty court case, which is taking forever to be resolved. Which I can’t talk about online here, you can email or pm me if you would like hear about this issue. Really very unhappy about this one.
And then a sudden renewed spirit and faith, has me unexpectedly studying Anglican Theology, yeah… how about becoming a priest… what! And at my age… I am absolutely loving it though.
The not so crafty,
I sewed a few HST units together. That’s pretty much it. Just blah blah blah about being tired and why. Crafty goals for next week, though!
I’ve been playing with Grannies all week… Granny Square quilt blocks, that is…
Stuff I talk about:
Great Grannie’s Squares Quilt for Charlotte Ruth
Granny Square Block Tutorial by Blue Elephant Stitches
I finally managed to get a video done. Only took 10 tries.
In saying that, I am sorry that the video is 20 minutes long. After so many tries, I just gave up trying to make it shorter. Promise that future ones will be shorter.
Hope everyone is having a happy sewing and crafty week.
Just popping in to say hi. I have been following all your news, all the hurricanes, and the Linus quilt drive. And the fires on the west coast. I am so happy everyone is OK. And that so many people donated quilts to Linus. I wish I could have contributed to that.
Happy birthday to everyone this month.
I can’t seem to drag myself out of my slump, since my own bad news. Only 1 block sewn in 3 weeks. The amount of times I have sat down at my sewing desk to try and sew something, and then just sit there crying is to many to count.
The short story is this;
My brother’s little 3 year old girl, passed away on 2 September. She choked on an Ice Cream cone, then fell into the pool. They were at a holiday resort when it happened, and someone started cpr straight away, then the paramedics tried to revive her for over 2 hours. My brother and sister and law was watching her the whole time. It was a freak accident.
Her death broke me.
They have asked me to turn her tiny little clothes into a quilt, which I will happily do. When I get the guts together to open the container…and not cry all over her clothes.
The plan of action for this week, is to make something and then be back next week with some blocks to show in my video with a big smile on my face.
I have also designed and cut out a pattern to turn into a pillow cover for my sister’s little boy. That needs to be finished by end of September. So I need to get a hold of myself and get going.
And no pun intended, but a rainbow came into my life and it is cheering me up. I will finish a queen size one, to fit my bed.
Sorry about the lack of posts but haven’t been all that crafty. Also, with the new little guy and work, there’s not much time left for me. But it’s getting better!
No video this week. Nothing to show.
I did however plan on making a video to show my scrap bags I have ready for Rainbow Cascade qal, I can’t wait.
But spent about 11 minutes just talking nonsense and getting emotional.
Soooo… I will have a video next week Tuesday, with 2 blocks to show off for one of the quilt alongs I am busy with.
Talking about that, in the beginning of the year. I made myself a promise that I would only take part in 1 qal, (not my own) and work on all my UFO’s. I even named this year, the Year of the UFO.
But I managed to get myself completely mental again. Luckily I am up to date with everything, but have to much to think about and organize.
So for the next week or so, I will only be working on blog posts for FBQAL2.
Then I can get back to the others.
My SewJo keeps threatening to go on strike, but I have managed to beat it into submission with the promise of a time out, in a couple of months time. I plan on a staycation for 3 weeks in December.
I need a timeout to process some personal issues, and just chill out for a bit.
Love you all.
Have a happy crafty week, see you all next time.
