Walnuts appear to be my unintentional theme for the week…
Just a reminder to anyone who didn’t see my video from last week: Massively warm winter coat is up for grabs! If you, or someone you know might be interested I’ll work on getting accurate measurements of the beast for sizing/fit purposes and weighing it so we can figure out shipping. For a rough idea on the coat’s size, I typically wear a US size 16 dress (in RTW clothing, not pattern sizing), BUT I’m over 6 feet tall so that sucker is LONG.
Some notes on the coat:
It feels very strange to showcase something I made at least 7 years ago…but sometimes it’s good to revisit one’s creative beginnings. This coat is one of the few things I’ve held onto despite not really being able to use it. I’m not usually sentimental about material things, but it was a bit of a coming of age project for me. It went from concept to reality during a particularly tumultuous period in my life and helped crystallize both my personal style and my understanding that other people’s opinions of my abilities are not always reflective of the truth. However…it needs a new home and I’d feel better about giving it to a person than a faceless organization. I’ve some bits of the original materials in my stash that I plan to make into some wall art to memorialize what the piece represents to me, but it’s time to let the coat itself go. If anyone in the ttmt community would like to have it, or knows someone who would, let me know and we’ll figure out how to get it to you.
Sorry for the silence everyone; it’s been an impressively hectic month for me. I haven’t gotten ANY actual sewing done, so here’s a super short video of a few other crafty bits and bobs.
Part 1 of my mix and match skirt suit: the pocket circle skirt. In which I confirm that cotton flannel (pajama fabric) is an excellent substitute for traditional wool suiting. Also proof that I should never record videos when tired. >_< This was a bit of a bear to edit and cobble together into something more or less cohesive. The thumbnail pretty well sums up the weirdness that went on while filming this. 😛
Wow that thumbnail. O_O Hello maniacal grin! Lemme just show you all my teeth. There was a LOT of silly in this video, so prepare yourselves…and maybe don’t try to drink anything while watching the bloopers.
Still a few wonky editing moments I’m afraid, but progress is being made! Also still working on finding a format I like, hence adding in the project time estimate. Although I forgot to mention it in the video, this kind of “Frankenpatterning” – using bits and pieces from different patterns that I like – is a thing I do pretty frequently.
