TTMT 198: Shaky Shaky

In which I show 4 quilts, one unfinished one by me, one by my Grandma, one by my mom, and one by my friend’s mother-in-law.

Quilt 1: Pattern is Kite Flight, which is a free pattern from Robert Kaufman. The fabrics are from a Robert Kaufman Kona roll up of Snow and one of what was called New Colors, I think back in 2014 or so. The borders are my own addition to make it a more reasonable size by adding 10 inches to either side of what is otherwise a long, narrow quilt.

Quilt 2: A traditional flower basket quilt, pieced and quilted by my grandma.

Quilt 3: A bog standard nine patch quilt, pieced by my mom, quilted and bound by me.

Quilt 4: Pattern is Bento Box, though these blocks are maybe 15″ or 18″ blocks (haven’t got it in front of me to check) rather than the 12″ in the linked pattern. This was pieced by a friend’s mother-in-law, was quilted by Jason Blackmore of Love Shack Quilts, and was bound by me. I finished this a while ago now and still need to get ahold of my friend to see when I can drop this quilt off.

  1. It’s always good to hear from you. I’m absolutely in love with your jelly roll quilt and have really enjoyed watching your progress on IG.

Thanks for the mini quilt show! My grandma also had the pink for girls things. My daughter had soooo much pink from her great-grandma… Good call on the loose quilting on your friend’s mum’s quilt. It is sure to be treasured.

    1. Thank you! It’s been nearly a month and I’m still not finished quilting it! I got to the borders and kind of crapped out… I need to make a decision about what to put in them and just don’t have any ideas!

  2. I love you Kite Flight quilt. The quilt looks great. I know it’s so time consuming to do all the different sections, but it really looks good.

Lol I had to laugh at the Pink! My mom alway bought yellow and pink things for girls. My sister and I both hated pink. So guess who got stuck with all things pink as a kid. Lol

The quilt you finished for your friend is really lovely thing to do. I’m sure it will be very appreciated to have to completed and given back.

Good to see you. Come back when you have time.

    1. Thank you! I’m still not finished Kite Flight… I can’t make a decision about what to do with the borders. I’m leaning toward straight line quilting… maybe… but that maybe feels like too much of a departure from the rest. Dunno. I hope to finish it by the end of the year though so I just need to make a decision already!

  3. OMG Kristel that quilting on the jelly roll quilt is freaking amazing! It’s so good to hear from you again. I know what you mean about not knowing what to keep. I can honestly say if you can find another fmaily member that would like it just move it on.

The quilting on the giant bento box quilt is perfect for such a huge quilt.

    1. Thank you! I’m still working on finishing that quilt… can’t decide what to do with the borders, but I am really happy with where it’s at so far. It’s one of my favourite quilts so far, I think!
