TTMT 197 Needy Dog

In which I show some things I’ve been working on and also talk about the new animal in my life. The blue and orange quilt is the Cy Star quilt from CornerCurveQuilts.com. The Summer Sampler is the 2020 pattern from SwimBikeQuilt.com or LeeHeinrichShop.com or FreshLemonsQuilts.com. The Grassy Creek Mystery Quilt is from QuiltvilleBlogspot.com. The quilting idea is called “Road Maps” from Helen Godden and can be found on YouTube.

  1. Doggo is adorable. But, yes, I’m sure he can be annoying. But he’ll probably settle down a bit in the next few years. (HEE HEE)

Your quilts are beautiful and I’m looking forward to seeing them all put together. Your work is always meticulous,

    1. He’s a bit rambunctious, but he is still a puppy and he’s kind of had a big life change so he’s still kind of settling in. He was a rescue as a puppy and was adopted by a friend of my sister, but she has two kids and he was very jealous of the attention she paid to the kids. Her kids didn’t seem to bond with him much and then he bit the arm of one of the kids, so she wanted to pass him on to a childless house. But he just can’t stand to be ignored, which is frustrating. I hope that will go away!

  2. And now you KNOW why we are cat people, lol. Dogs are like having a second full-time job, or having a child. πŸ˜‰

Your Cy Star quilt is gorgeous, and looks so different from the ones I have seen so far, it’s amazing what a difference fabric choice makes! And that backing is probably the first thing from Kaffe Fasset I’ve liked, lol. What a terrific backing fabric!

We have missed you so I hope we get to see you soon. I’m looking forward to seeing your QaL blocks turn into quilts.

    1. Ugh… I somehow didn’t attach my comment to yours. Good thing I could copy/paste the reply up here… (ETA: I figured out how to delete the spare, so yay for that.)

I’m not really a pet person at all, regardless of the animal it’s more work than I’m interested in doing πŸ˜€ (No toilet duty for me, thank you, whether the toilet is a litter box or the lining of a bird cage or the grass out back.)

I think that Kaffe Fassett print is the first I’ve liked too haha… I usually find his prints too busy and just hard to use, but these giant flowers on a big sea of blue are pretty easy to love!

  4. Unexpected dog, oh my! I hope you settled down as he gets a little older, for your sake if nothing else!

Do not worry about your belated thanks. I’m totally okay with it as I know you’ve had a whole lot of things going on in your life. I’m also super glad you like the measuring tape fabric. I thought it was really fun even if I have no idea what to do with it!

Your Cy Star turned out just lovely. I’m intrigued by the quilting technique you mentioned and will have to look it up.

    1. He is settling in for sure, but he’s a really needy dog. He was a rescue and has a lot of anxiety – they’re not really sure what the situation he came from is like, but he doesn’t deal too well with too much stimulation, whilst also being really needy for attention. So he’s a bit of work for sure.

I think this road maps quilting technique could work really well with the long arm style quilting, just using bands across the quilt rather than spreading out/up from the bottom the way she shows in most of her videos. I don’t love the idea of marking a whole quilt top, but it looks really cool finished.

  5. Ok I found the doggo dialogue hilarious. Hostage dog owner πŸ™‹πŸ»β€β™€οΈ
He is super cute, but they definitely are needy when they are young. We have a 11 yr old Golden Retriever that is chill because she is 11. She was super needy younger and thought she was a lap dog at 80 pounds. Lol

Your Cy Star quilt is beautiful. I love seeing how different they look based on fabric choices.

I love the colors of your Summer Sew A long blocks. Really beautiful

Ok hope your back soon. And more importantly I hope things have calm down a bit for you. Take care and happy sewing

    1. I’m hoping he’ll settle down a little more. My sister has bought him more toys, which has helped occupy him without him sitting on top of us all the time, which is great haha.. she’s also taken him to a dog behavioural specialist to help figure out some of his behaviour problems. We’ll see how it goes πŸ˜€

Anyway, thanks! The Cy Star quilt is pretty impressive looking any way people make it, but agree about how loving to see how the various versions come together. It’s a dramatic quilt.

  6. Love the blue/orange combination in the Cy Star! And of course my favorite is the Kaffe Fassett backing! I want to do a sampler, but it’ll have to wait until next year I’m afraid. Your colors are wonderful.

    1. Thanks! That KF is a really great backing… its a really beautiful print!

There’s just so many things to work on all the time, isn’t there? I’ve started lots of samplers, though only finished a couple haha.
