TTMT #394 – jewells68 – March 9, 2021 – Memories and Makers

#covidcut

I did it, I finished the memory quilt! Just need to label, make sure it doesn’t fall apart in the wash, and mail it to its new home. What’s next? Who knows! And I cut my own hair last week. So far I am totally happy with it. If I’m vaccinated by the time I need it cut again, maybe I’ll even have a pro do the next one. 🙂 In Maker news, I’m currently trying to make labels for some of my bins that will look prettier than the current look, which is “sharpie on blue painters tape”, lol. Just taking each day as it comes so I can enjoy the crafty process.

    1. Honestly having curly hair makes the difference. If my hair were straight or if I were to straighten it now, it would look like a mess. As it is it looks more like it’s a deliberate mess, lol

I am so glad it’s done! I really love the hand embroidery. I just hope the whole thing doesn’t disintegrate in the wash!

  1. I’m looking forward to seeing the memory quilt.. must feel great to have it done!

Yay for the self cut hair! You did great! My closest friend cuts her own hair and it looks amazing too. Like Jennifer, if I ever cut mine, it would be painfully obvious! I haven’t had mine cut since fall 2019, so I’m getting pretty bad. It’s turned into all pony tails/braids all the time over here.

    1. I got really spoiled when I lived near my sister since she is a licensed cosmetologist. But she always yells at me for cutting it myself. She told my daughter to text her the next time I was about to buzz it off so she could talk me off the cliff, lol. but honestly buzz is not a big deal. It’s hair, it grows, and mine grows fast!

        1. Last time I did it was right before Phoenix Rising in 2007. 1″ all over. I recently bought a 2″ guard for my clippers, so that I can start with that if I decide to chop again, lol.

  2. I’m scared enough to just cut my own bangs. My boyfriend looks like some long haired samurai right now because he hasn’t had a cut since 2019. I had just decided to keep my hair shorter before all this happened. I usually cut it off and donate it when it gets too long, so I’m well on my way to doing that again.

    1. I have wanted to go the donate route in the past, but the longer it gets, the more split ends I get. My hair is just darn fine. So I’ve given up on that, but I wish I could! That would be an incentive to let it keep getting longer.

  3. Sounds like you have been busy. Playing with scissors is crafting, even if you were just cutting your hair.
Looking forward to seeing your memory quilt. Having fun labels on your totes will be great.

    1. I’m hoping to get the memory quilt in the mail in the next couple of weeks. I just need to make sure the weird scarf fabric doesn’t fall apart in the wash, in which case I may have some reconstruction to do.

  4. I love the haircut, I normally am only brave enough to cut my fringe. I am looking forward to seeing your cricut crafts, I love the HTV its my favourite to work with and looks really awesome when applied, although weeding can be fun!.

    Have a great week. xx

    1. I did my first HTV project yesterday morning and it worked out perfectly. Very excited! I also cut bonded fabric and did not work out quite so well. I’ll use the rotary blade next time.

      1. I have struggled with the bonded fabric , It does work really well with a full bond backing , the rotary is defiantly the way to go . Cant wait to see your HTV project , maybe we should have a T shirt design contest for the best Fandom T shirt !!

        1. HAH! well I don’t think I’m quite ready for a contest, lot. I can’t show my project yet, because it’s for a certain surprise thing. I can send it to you though. As for the cricut… baby steps, but so far everything has worked pretty well.

          1. I like and hate design space , sometimes it works great and other times it’s very frustrating. I think I might need some Agatha Christie t shirts , all suggestions welcome xx

            1. One of my favourite, although I think it’s an adaptation quote, is when the police inspector says I don’t know whether to buy her chocolates or kick her and Jane responds that she would prefer the chocolates. I have probably messed that one up but it’s from Death at the Vicarage xxx

  5. She has some great ones… my favorites include:
“Everybody is very much alike, really. But fortunately, perhaps, they don’t realise it.”
“It has just happened that I have found myself in the vicinity of murder rather more often than would seem normal.”
“I think, my dear, we won’t talk any more about murder during tea. Such an unpleasant subject.”

  6. Your hair looks great. My hair is so fine and straight. Curly envy over here👋🏻

Yay for finishing the memory quilt.
I look forward to seeing it.

Oh I swear I snorted when you said no kids that we know of. Lol
We have said that more than once regarding family members. Honestly the DNA tests could lead to some weird holidays. Lol

I hope you are enjoying your new toy. So many possibilities!

  7. You hair is VERY cute. That’s amazing you can do it yourself. I’m going tomorrow morning and get my first salon hair cut in a year. Rich has done a great job, but I’m looking forward to it getting cut. He’s getting his done,, too. My cuts for him weren’t so great,.
I bet it’s a relief to get the memory quilt done. Those kind of things hang over my head. Take care

    1. Thanks! It’s been a few weeks now and is getting kinda weird, lol. Once I’m vaccinated I may go to the salon and get a pixie cut but I wasn’t going to do that myself

It’s a HUGE relief. I’m in the process of sewing on the label. Then I’m going to take some photos and put it in a very gentle wash. I’m terrified the scarf fabric is going to disintegrate. It gave me some trouble while quilting. It’s been hanging over my head for over a year and I want her to have it.
