TTMT #358 – jewells68 – June 23, 2020 – Back in the Saddle Again!

I actually finished quilting, binding, and labeling my first Project Linus quilt since early this year, yay! I’m having to use batting scraps since I can’t get new Linus batting, but that’s ok, it just means fewer batting scraps stored in my Project Room. I’ve also paired 4 of my 5 remaining Linus tops with backing, and I have left some scraps out to use in the Side by Side QaL blocks that I need to finish. It feels so good to finally be finishing some things, or at least moving them along another step. I need batting, and probably just going to order some unless I hear we are having a Linus drop off in July. I’m glad I filmed yesterday, because we have thunderstorms moving in today. One day at a time… one quilt at a time!

    1. We need a BFF retreat so bad, but it looks like it will be 2021… post surgery retreat, the retreat that puts all previous retreats to shame! Muwahahaha!

I love that back so freaking much. I think that’s why I put off using it for so long, I didn’t want it to go away, lol. I have an even bigger cut of another similar tropical one with a more blueish background that was donated at the same time. Everyone else was afraid of the crazy bright giant print, lol. I was like hand it over!

I think this is my new favorite spot for filming. As long as I do it in the morning the sun won’t be in my eyes because I’m facing due west. Now that my back porch is practically empty it was mucheasier to set up than last time.

  1. Oh that turned out nice. I remember you talking about splitting it. Yay for being back at it! I feel like I’m just getting adjusted to my current “normal” and not feeling completely out of sorts all the time. Which is made my way more productive!

Every time you wear a tie dye I want to have a big tie dye party with you. Almost none of my friends wear tie dye.

    Happy Crafting and stay safe!

    1. Those bright tie dyes are the official shirts of the feminist chorus I used to sing with (New Mexico Women’s Chorus). They have them dyed by hand by a local artist. You probably can’t see my new tie dye sneakers in this video but they MATCH this shirt PERFECTLY. I love them so much. Great for casual wear, not built for jogging or race walking in the least, lol. I got them practically free with my new saucony running shoes I bought a couple of weeks ago from famous footwear. I wear my tiedye sneaks at least 3 or 4 days a week here around the house. I love tiedye so much. The brighter the better.

I just ordered a 6 yard roll of 90″ batting from Joann that will help me get caught up on Linus and personal quilts. also ordered some more small storage because I want to phase the giant sterlite bins out of using for fabric. I have decided if I have to dig for it I probably won’t use it. I can use them for other stuff in the house so I don’t feel like it’s a waste. Besides I’ve gotten like 10+ good years out of these giant bins!

      1. I have been watching You tube videos for tie dying converse. It’s definitely on my list. But when I buy all the supplies to do it right, I’ll wants a boat load of other things to do at the same time. I love tie dye too. Makes me happy

I hate the big bins I have now. My plan is to figure out what fits best after I have new furniture. I have had the big bins I have from 10 to 20 years. It kept getting them during moves. They work well for storage . But they are awful for fabric. Or sewing stuff. I have a few now stuffed with scraps of batt and scraps of backing. I need to do something with it or get it out of here.

        1. These are the ones I got. I needed new running/walking shoes, so I got those, but they had buy one get the next pair for half off, so I got these, and then before I checked out, I got an email with another 15% off coupon, so they ended up costing less than 10 bucks when all was said and done. They are actually more comfortable than the last pair of converse I owned. https://www.famousfootwear.com/en-US/Product/32225-1039856/Blowfish/Rainbow+Tie+Dye/Womens+Play+Slip+On+Sneaker.aspx?partnerid=adwordspla&ds_e=GOOGLE&ds_kid=92700042592058333&ds_c=Shopping+-+Blowfish+-+High+Margin&gclid=Cj0KCQjw0Mb3BRCaARIsAPSNGpWHs0Uz2YTIHD9e3reOcWdPQrdSV1gOcxEAGdKufLm7SUEbxRGq8L4aAtJWEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

  2. Way to go Jewels!!! So glad for you that you got that cute little quilt completed and used that bright happy fabric for the backing. Sounds like you are on your way!

    1. Thanks! I’ve got another one ready to load after piecing some backing, but I’ve got some cleaning I’ve got to do first. Purging a bunch of books and stuff and taking them to goodwill. Time to scale down my “stuff”. It’s just collecting dust.

    1. I was so dumb choosing a birthday block that was so small. A few folks made 2 for me, Cat, and maybe you. And I got a couple more extra from Ralu a few years later in return for something I sent her from a shop here in ABQ. But it was never enough for anything but a wall hanging or maybe a small lap quilt. ANd by then I wasn’t in love with the block anymore, lol. Then someone donated some leftover blocks to Linus, the rectangle ones and I thought, those are the same size! Then I met up with Jennifer for retreat, and lo and behold in her bin of orphan blocks she had a couple more tall shoefly blocks, same size and everything. I had brought mine to toss in the orphan block retreat pile and instead I made the first top that I cut up earlier this year, lol. Now it’s cute and a good size and some kid has it already. Yay!
