  1. Love the Christmas tree panel. Really like what you did with it! You might quilt Xmas ornaments or children’s toys randomly in the background. Sort an I Spy quilt. Or a bunch of snowflakes. I’m sure you will have fun with it.

    1. What wonderful ideas! I was thinking snowflakes, at least on the snowy ledge of the window outside. I think I want something more detailed on the tree than I usually do, and that could definitely incorporate some ornaments. The background may be less dense and more snowflakes. Thanks for the ideas. I’m happy with how it turned out so far.

  2. I had planned to suggest that anyone interested could tape or glue their candy cane border pieces together prior to piecing, but time got away from me and here we are!

The tree is fabulous! The star looks like it’s glowing in the video. ❤️

    1. I’m working on the candy stripes, and realized I didn’t need to get to the Dollar Tree to buy a roll of easel paper…I have a roll of (not really) paper towels. The kind that has no tearing holes and comes in a BIG roll about 10 inches wide to go in commercial bathrooms to dry your hands. I have the end of the roll from years ago–waiting for its turn to be useful. So I just cut it down to 6.5″ and traced the block onto it. Working so far.
I got the “wall” fabric for my tree in the window. So hopefully I’ll be ready to start quilting tomorrow. I have a funeral tonight and in the morning, and still committed to a campaign in my non-work hours, but I hope to find the time. I’m going to start with snowflakes and see if I get obsessed and do some amazing, tight quilting or decide to just edge-to-edge the rest and get onto the next one. I honestly don’t know at this point. I do have 3 more things waiting in line to go to Molly for quilting. I spend most of my days wishing I was quilting, but just can’t do it right now. This one, though, I’m excited about and have a deadline.
My boss is retiring at the end of October and I decided to finish one of my UFO’s for him he’s a big LSU fan, so I think I’ll do that one. More to do–but it will be one less UFO on my design wall. I really need to quit my job to get this done. He is retiring after the election (not running for re-election), so the campaign I’m working on and the need for his retirement quilt are the exact same timeframe. Maybe if I just sleep (even) less?

  3. I really love your plan for the xmas tree panel. I have been toying with the idea of doing the attic window for a panel but hadn’t decided which one. I’ve been waiting for the right one to come along at Linus to try it out.

Beautiful batiks for the RB QaL. I think I’m going to wait until the design invitational to decide on blocks for that one.

My condolences on your loss. I hope you get some time to sew this weekend to help you relax.

    1. I’ve been putting off the attic window all these years, but when I saw the tree (and a challenge) I knew it was time. I know you’ll have a Linus one show up and be the right one one of these years.
Thanks for the condolences. I’ll be seeing so much family tonight and tomorrow…which will definitely be nice but may also be exhausting. I am committed to quilting because I need the stress relief. I have Monday off, but if Hurricane Dorian survives Florida it may cause bad weather here (and possibly more power outages). We’ll see.
On the RB, I’m just going to take the blocks in the order of my most favorite ones, and I’ll stay behind enough to where at the end I will have several to choose to use/ignore. Just winging it–as usual.

  4. The tree panel/attic window looks really neat… I think there’s lots of things you could do with the quilting! You could do swirling wind and snowflakes in the background.. ornaments like Sarah suggested (or just some kind of fun star for the tree top).

    1. Great ideas! I’m still staring at it and the more I see it the more options I have. I like the swirling wind/snowflakes idea. We’ll see what I eventually do. My fabric for the borders came (it’ll be the wallpaper on the wall around the window). Unfortunately, I wasn’t thinking when I ordered it. I was correct that 2 yards would be plenty, but I forgot that it’s a stripe, and don’t want to piece the sides…and the window is over 2 yards high with the borders. So I ordered 3 more yards (I love the fabric and have used it before, so I don’t mind having 2 extra yards). So, I’m waiting again for a few days. But it’s not like I don’t have other things to work on. And it give me a few more days to think about the quilting.

  5. Great idea for the panel. I would probably quilt it snow flakes or something for the windo area and something else for the walls.

I’m sure I’ll glue my candy canes sections together.

    Happy Crafting

    1. Yeah, the candy cane as a strip for the border just makes more sense. The blocks are very versatile, though.

I’ve got some different thoughts for the walls than for the window. I’m thinking about a more formal look for the walls (it’s wallpaper, after all). Definitely snow…just thinking which one. We’ll see if I’m inclined to something dramatic on the tree or if I take the easy way and do an E2E. I’m excited about it. I think I get my new fabric for the walls tomorrow (what I got is really nice but not long enough, and I don’t want a seam on my wall.
      Thanks for your input.

    1. Thanks. I’m excited about it. The last thing I needed was a new project, but I had to have it. The other one is a GIANT snowflake on blue. They would look so nice either back-to-back for a throw or side by side on a wall.

    1. Thanks for checking on me. Working on my brother’s campaign for judge every night after my real job. Quilting a little, but no time for anything else. The election is this Saturday, so you’ll be seeing more of me after that. Again, thanks.
