Hi Robin. I do remember Flicker. I did post the doll swap quilts online for the About.com group. I think the first time was when Misha got oranged bombed at the retreat for Island of the sun or some name like that. I think they still meet but a few ladies have passed. Were you in the swap?. Othe swaps was Catpatches and then there was the challenge on We All Sew for it changed hands.
If I could type in English it would be great! Ugh.
WeAllSew was unique. I did the I AM Biased mini. I still have it hanging up in my bedroom. I think I came in 2nd or 3rd. Lots of fun.
I believe I did a few swaps through about.com. I did make It Into several of the doll quilt swaps. Which was the name of the group too. If I remember correctly they capped it at 250 participants each round. They moved to Facebook but It wasn’t the same anymore. I was also in the quilt bee block swaps several times. I think it’s harder now to find people who will follow through with their commitment to swap. Life is busy.
Flickr is still my go to photo hosting and sharing site, mainly because that is also where all the Fandom in Stitches photos are stored and it was easy to tag your photo for quiltalongs so Jennifer could use them in her FiS blog posts.. Until the end of 2018 I had a paid account, but the double the price going into this year and I just couldn’t justify spending that much money, so I downloaded a lot of older and personal photos and only mainly keep my Project Linus annual albums there… I considered closing my account, but the thought of having to move ALL my photos was too overwhelming. My hope is that they lose so many paid accounts due to the price increase that they end up lowering back down to closer to where it was a year ago.
hit enter before I mentioned that I love the quilt top. I never participated in any Flickr swaps, I did that mainly through Livejournal back in the day.
I did go back and do a little searching and I saw where a pro account was $25 and of course you’re absolutely right that It doubled. For some reason I had It in my head that a pro account was $99 at one point. I remember thinking it was pretty generous of people to gift a pro account. 🤷♀️
Originally pro was 12 bucks a year. Thats when i signed up for it. Then it doubled and was 25 and i stuck with it. Now its just over 50 if you pay annually or 72 bucks a year if you pay monthly. I would happily sign up again for pro if they would keep it at 25. But i just dont use it enough to justify more.
When I was active on Flickr I did not have the pro account. I remember It being more than I wanted to pay. From what I read It seems like Flickr was bought out and It changed in a way that the original creators didn’t like so they bought It back ??? Or something along those lines. I do remember that free accounts had photo limits but they didn’t delete your extra photos. Now if you have a free account they delete any photos over 1,000 and once you hit 1,000 photos you can’t upload any more photos. I did go ahead and sign up for a Pro account. As of today It is $49.99 per year. I started a couple groups and plan on running some future swaps through there so I decided to try It for a year and see if It ends up being worth that price. Thanks!
I like the color combinations on that quilt. Very nice indeed!
The only block swaps I’ve participated in were with a local quilt guild. But I do have Fandom pictures on Flickr. Unfortunately I can’t remember how to sign in.
I use a service that automatically backs up all of my Instagram photos directly to Flickr. Most of the Fandom in Stitches designers use Flickr to post their quilt block photos. I host a Fandom in Stitches group there, too, but most of the quilty folks migrated to Facebook groups and the Flickr group doesn’t see nearly as much traffic as it used to. If you’re interested, you can find me under my name or as ofenjen.
At one point I must have done something because several of my more recent photos have made their way to Flickr. Just not all of them. I went and checked and saw that I am a member of the Fandom in Stitches group. I knew even way back that those were some amazing blocks.
All of my original Harry Potter blocks are on Flickr. I remember it well.
That would make a beautiful wall hanging. I love aqua and red together. I also love rainbow colors. Of course, there’s very little when it comes to colors that I don’t love.
I miss swaps.
Have a great week.

Yep, that’s too big of a jump for what’s being offered.
